Sweet Briar Institute, Sweet Briar, VA; Vice President for Administration and General Counsel (2015-17); Represented the College during an historic time; managed all legal issues; negotiated/drafted contracts, counselled about compliance, policies, technology, employment, immigration, intellectual property, marketing, recruitment, governance, real estate, finance, fundraising, liability, claims, complaints; provided special assistance to the President. Vice President for Administration was responsible for Athletics, Riding, Institutional Research, Media, Marketing and Communications, Law functions. Albright & Wilson Americas Inc, formerly in Richmond, VA (former Tenneco Inc. chemical manufacturing subsidiary); Counsel, General Counsel, General Counsel and Director of Regulatory Affairs (1988-95); Advised all operations in North and South America on legal matters including regulatory compliance, crisis management, intellectual property, commercial transactions, employment, immigration, environment, product stewardship, governance; managed litigation. Managed department of seven professionals. Successfully defended client throughout the aftermath of a major workplace disaster with nine fatalities, including three accident investigations led by government agencies and the union, with class action and other litigation.
